Tech 101 Workshops

We understand that in today’s tech-saturated world, those who aren’t familiar with using common digital devices and applications are left behind when it comes to accessing important information and even employment opportunities. We call this technological disparity the Digital Divide, and it is one of our missions as a Block Club to make a dent in that divide.

One way we can accomplish this is by hosting a variety of free tech workshops for our community where we can teach basic skills in a welcoming and interactive setting.

Workshop #1:
Zoom Basics

In our first workshop, we taught the basics of how to navigate Zoom on both mobile and PC devices. During the pandemic, Zoom became the most used app when keeping in touch with loved ones and colleagues.

Some topics we covered:

  • Breaking down the Zoom invite (Join online, Meeting ID/Passcodes, One-tap mobile & Dialing in)

  • Common Zoom functions (mute, video on/off, reactions)

  • Identifying what each icon means

  • Using the chat window (sending messages Directly and to Everyone)

All of the participants walked away with new skills and were excited to learn about more programs. We look forward to the next one!
